“Change takes time” may be the most often used excuse for never actually changing anything. By referencing a single goal in the distant future, the path from here to there remains ambiguous and large strides are always said to be coming but never actually made.
It is true that large-scale change may take several years. But large-scale change is simply the result of a very long string of small-scale changes. Many tweaks and adjustments that each in part take little time at all.
Maybe we should start saying, “Change takes a little time…many times…over a long period of time.” On second thought, maybe we should stop rephrasing excuses and start creating the future.
